Sandpiper is a perfect base for visiting this lovely area as South Milton is approximately half way between Salcombe, with its lovely waterside views, shops and restaurants, and Kingsbridge, a quaint market town again with lots of independent shops and cafes.

At South Milton Sands, we are lucky to have a fantastic beach cafe, www.beachhousedevon.com which is open all day during the summer months, selling hot & cold sandwiches, pasties and chips as well as ice creams, and it also now has a lovely eat-in menu.  The cafe has recently been taken over by a locally renowned chef, (the owner of The Whitehouse at Chillington), and, new for summer 2011, the cafe is extending its opening hours to provide evening meals such as moules, homemade burgers and steak.

The Beach has a duty Lifeguard and also wet suits and surf boards are available to hire throughout the summer months.

The South West Coast path runs right along the side of the beach, making Sandpipers an ideal base for walking enthusiasts.  In one direction, a 30 minute walk along the coast path takes you to picturesque Hope Cove, which has a pub, cafe, post office and a sandy beach to enjoy.  In the other direction, a 20 minute walk, takes you to the village of Thurlestone, home of the famous Thurlestone Golf Club, again with a lovely Dining Pub, Post Office and shop.

Sandpiper is extremely well placed for visiting the whole of the South Hams area, designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, famous for its rolling hillsides, beautiful estuaries and 60 miles of fantastic and varied coastline, with many clean, safe and sandy beaches to suit all tastes.

Whatever your interest you are sure to find something to do in the South Hams including visits to Castles, Farms, National Trust Houses, Gardens, Museums and Galleries. You can take a cruise along the river Dart or a trip on the Devon Steam Railway. Why not visit the Sharpham Vineyards and on the first Saturday of every month you can visit the award winning Kingsbridge Farmers’ Market.

There is an endless choice of walks, both inland and along the stunning South Devon coastal scenery, all easily reached from Sandpiper, or simply take a 10 minute walk down to the beach and watch the sun set.

If you fancy a day at a different beach you will be spoiled for choice, from the great sweep of flat golden sands at Bigbury, or the lovely beach at North Sands, Salcombe, (if you visit the be sure to call in at the Winking Prawn Beach Cafe, it’s fantastic!), or you may prefer spectacular Slapton Sands, backed by the extraordinary freshwater lagoon, or drive another five minutes from Slapton, along the beautiful coastal road to the wooded sun-trap of Blackpool Sands which was voted the best family beach in Britain by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine and again has a brilliant cafe.

Wherever you choose you'll be on one of the most beautiful, safe, clean and best managed beaches you'll find anywhere.
